The US Club Soccer Florida Cup is a state-wide single elimination tournament running from October 1st, 2023 through May 12th, 2024. The winner secures a spot in the US Club Soccer National Championships in Denver, CO in July 2024.
Our first game was a 4-0 win over Cape Coral Cyclones in Wesley Chapel, FL. We won our QF matchup with Florida Premier ECNLR 1-0 on February 25th sending us to Finals weekend in Melbourne.
Our semi-final against DME Academy was fantastic game that ended 2-2 with kicks going on our way sending us to the final. The final was against Doral Academy and that game ended 1-1. However, in the last 2 minutes of extra-time, they put 2 away to take home the trophy 3-1.
It was a fantastic event and I was super proud of the kids. More work to be done.
Our tournament began against La Moraleja from Madrid with a 0-0 draw. It felt like a game we could win, but playing in a stadium, in a new country, I thought it was a good start. Our second game we played AT Chopra also from Madrid. We gave up a goal early, but responded almost immediately to end up with a 1-1 draw. Our 3rd match we played Academia de Futbol from Madrid and after a tight first half that ended scoreless, we found our footing and won 5-0. It setup a delicious matchup with Atletico Madrid (yes that Atletico Madrid) where the winner went to the gold bracket and the loser to the silver. We started incredible and the first time Atletico touched the ball was to get it out of their net as we went up 1-0. Another quick goal and a 3rd about half way through led us into half-time up 3-0. Another in the second half finished the game off 4-0. It was phenomenal. As we entered the knockout stages, our next game was against Getafe (yes, that Getafe) and let's just say we had a bit of a let down. We ended up losing 4-1 and our tournament was over. It was a good event and we played well. A solid foundation to continue to build on next season.
We began against Eclipse ECNL out of Illinois in a hard fought game, ending in a 2-2 draw. We then faced FC Tampa Rangers and pulled out a 3-1 win in some very hot weather. In the last game of the group stage, we faced Scott Gallagher, the #1 team in the country. We ended the first half tied 1-1 and ended up losing 3-1. It was a great game. Coming out of the group stage, we were seeded 9th, putting us in the Gold division. We played Carolina Velocity in the semis and won in kicks on the 24th kicker (1-1, 8-7 in PKs). And in the finals, we beat ACBB from Paris, France 1-0 to bring home the gold trophy. It was a fantastic week and a wonderful event.
Our tournament started with a rematch of our Florida Cup game against Florida Premier South - ECNLR and ended the same way with a 1-0 victory. Our play was solid and you could see the evolution from just 8 weeks ago. Our improved play led to a 5-0 win over Tampa Bay United - ECNLR and a 4-0 win over Florida Celtic - ECNLR with complete performances becoming more consistent. The final wasn't quite at the level we had been performing, but the team came away with a 1-0 victory over Florida Premier North - ECNLR to bring home our fourth trophy of the season.
We ended up winning a tough group with a win and 2 ties. A good opening game against Javanon from Kentucky ended 0-0 and both teams probably felt they could have gotten all 3 points. Our first game on day 2 was a 4-1 win against VIP from New York as we took advantage of our opportunities. In the early evening we drew 2-2 with West Pines in what was our best game of the season. While the final product was lacking, the build out and possession work was absolutely fantastic. Unfortunately, it wasn't a trend and we got beat by Rayados from Delaware in the semi-finals (they went on to win the whole thing). Overall, very pleased with the progress and happy with the soccer we are playing.
In what turned out to be a nice weekend, we came through the top U-15 bracket as champions. A win against Orlando City Lake Nona and ties against ASG and Clay County allowed us to take first place on goal difference. While our play and the underlying stats showed a more dominant performance, our inconsistencies in both defending and in front of goal allowed our opponents to stay in matches and build confidence.
What an excellent tournament. We played at Paradise Coast Sports Complex - a beautiful facility against some great competition. Our first game against West Florida Flames - MLS Next was a 2-0 defeat, but a well-played game. Due to ODP callups, we had only 11 at the game, so we did spend more time defending. The kids worked on our defensive approach and were incredibly disciplined. In the afternoon, some reinforcements arrived and we drew with Juventus Academy Athletum - MLS Next 0-0. This was a battle of midfields with each team creating just a few chances. 0-0 was a just result. We finished off with FC Prime from South Florida and our group of 11 won that game 3-1. I really enjoyed playing them and chatting with their coaching staff. Just a good group of people. Unfortunately, we finished with 4 points and 2 teams had 5, so we did not advance. Overall a fantastic event and continued improvement from our kids.
It was a good performance as we kicked off our 3rd development cycle. We went 4-0 with our toughest game against a strong Savannah United team. After spotting them 2 goals, 3 corners kicks led our comeback and 3-2 victory. We finished the weekend scoring 13 and giving up 2 while averaging over 65% possession in our games. It was a solid performance and another step in our progress.
We returned to Lakewood Ranch in January to get a thumping by Supreme FC - Showcase 4-1 to begin the tournament. We struggled with some of our PCB adjustments and were just outplayed. We rebounded in the afternoon where we scored all 3 goals in a 2-1 victory over Barcelona Academy - Blau. We were in complete control until we scored on ourselves and made the final minutes a bit nervy. On Sunday, both us and Miami Breakers played in 40 degree weather. We started out cold going down 1-0 and 2-1, but fought back for a 2-2 draw and probably should have put another one in late. The inconsistencies of U-14 soccer are very much evident in the group and something we will continue to work on.
We started off 2024 in Miami, FL at Kendall Soccer Park. On Saturday evening we played a fantastic game against Miami Rush Kendall - MLS Reserve and scored two banger goals to win 2-1. We gritted out a game against SC Albion from Brooklyn, NY and ensured a 5th minute PK held up for a 1-0 victory. In the finals, we played a great game against SC Albion National with it ending 1-1 after we went up 1-0 in the first 10 minutes. Unfortunately, we ended up on the wrong side of penalties losing 4-1. On a day it could have gone either way, it fell their way. A solid way to kick off the new year.
We finished the fall season off at Lakewood Ranch in a wet and windy Tampa Super Cup. Our Saturday was a challenging one as we lost to Barca Academy 4-1 and Silva Select 4-0. It definitely made us take a step back as we felt the games were closer than the score line. We finished on Sunday beating Doral SC ECNLR 2-1, but it wasn't the finish to the fall season we were looking for. We go into the holiday break ready to refocus and build on the foundation we've put in place.
An excellent weekend at a beautiful complex. We started off with a tough game against Silva Select losing 5-2, but turned it around to win our next two against UFA from Georgia (3-2) and Central NC from North Carolina (7-0) and advance to the knock our rounds. We played Achilles FC - MLS Next from Maryland and beat them 4-0, setting up a semi-final match with FKK - ECNLR. An unlucky start put us in a hole we just couldn't get out of and our tournament ended with a 3-0 loss. It was a great experience and exposed us to a wide variety of tactics - another step in our movement forward.
We started the weekend off with a solid 4-1 victory over Wellington SC and finished the weekend off with a 2-1 win over Miami Rush MLS Reserve. We got to see some teams we have seen before as well as some new ones. It was good competition and a well run event. Another stepping stone in our development plans.
We began our weekend off losing to Athletic Club Miami 5-0 in a game that was closer than the score line indicated, but we recovered winning our next 3 games scoring 6 and giving up none. It was a little consolation knowing that AC Miami ended up winning the whole thing and qualified for the Freedom Cup in December. As a result of our performances, DSPFC came out of our first 8 games ranked 12th in the state, not a bad starting point.
Great way to get some initial games under our belt before the season starts. We went through our first 3 games undefeated, beating Key Biscayne (#9 in Florida) 3-2 in a very difficult match. The last friendly pitted the two top performing teams, so we got to see Key Biscayne again and they came out on top 2-0. All in all – for our first four games of the fall season, a great foundation to build upon.
After a challenging two games to start the tournament, DSPFC won our next five matches to setup a final in Playoff B. Unfortunately, we ended up losing 1-0 in the final to Vidar FK. A fantastic tournament and a great end to our 23 days of European football.
After starting the tournament with a last-second draw. DSPFC found our form, winning our final 5 games and lifted the trophy in Paris under the Eiffel Tower with a 1-0 victory over Bassarabia. What an amazing experience!
DSPFC goes on an unbelievable run scoring 46 goals and giving up none beating Michigan Jaguars MLS NEXT 5-0 in the finals. We were the only team in the tournament to go through the entire tournament without giving up a goal.
We spent the fourth of July weekend in DC playing a year up in the U13 division. In addition to spending the fourth watching fireworks from the lawn of the Capital, we played well losing in the finals 2-0 to DMV Gaindes.
Our first 11v11 games were played in the U13 division at the Texas Gold Cup. After winning our first 3 games outscoring our opponents 19-0, we gave up our first goal less than 5 minutes into the final. We stayed composed and ultimately finished with a 3-1 win over FC Dallas ETX Rios.
The program expanded to 20 players, added bus trips and assistant coaches further elevating the experiences for the kids. They continued to grow through the 3v3 game, accelerating their pace, improving their quality and challenging them to be the best version of themselves. We finished the year at Nationals bringing home 1st, 8th & 10th.
Summer of Covid prevented us from having the academy.
2019 was the third year of the summer program, but first under the DSPFC umbrella. The kids were remarkable and their growth visible to everyone. We finished the year at Nationals bringing home 4th & 9th.
