Win or lose, our development plans are in place to help players maximize their potential. But game play and results are a great way to measure and compare our progress against others playing this beautiful game. Playing against the best competition and striving to win are core principles at DSPFC.
The US Club Soccer Florida Cup is a state-wide single elimination tournament running from September 28th, 2024 through May 11th, 2025. The winner secures a spot in the US Club Soccer National Championships in Denver, CO in July 2024.
We won our round of 16 match against Orlando City Lake Nona ECNLR 4-2 and moved on to the quarterfinals. Our next opponent will be FKK- ECNLR in Orlando in early 2025.
We traveled to Tampa and played 3 games on the Stadium field at Premier Sports Campus at Lakewood Ranch in beautiful weather. We started with a 3-1 victory over Haddonfield FC from New Jersey. They were physical and high energy but we handled it well. Our second game was against Miami FC Academy and was a bit more challenging. After going down 1-0 and 2-1, we found our footing in the second half to score 3 unanswered goals to put the game away 5-2. That led to a final against Silva who had also won both of their games. We finished the calendar year with our most complete performance against a great team. We won 3-0, we didn't give up a shot on goal and we had 21 shots. Our defense was relentless and the kids' decision making was the best, making our performance that much cleaner. We made a very good Silva team look average that day and it was a fantastic send off to 2024.
We traveled to Savannah and played some good soccer in absolutely beautiful weather. We started with a victory over Nasa Tophat SCCL where we were down 1-0 at half, but came back strong to win 6-1. Our second game was against South Carolina United which got off to a rough start as they had a player sent off 3 minutes into the game. We won soundly 4-0 and moved into the finals. In the finals, we played Augusta Arsenal who were also 2-0 and hadn't given up a goal, but we struck first going up 1-0 within 12 minutes. A second about 10 minutes later made the game 2-0 and we saw the game out to bring home another trophy.
Another great event with some high level competition. We won our first game against FC Prime 3-2. The first 15 minutes were some of the best soccer we have played this season as we go up 2-0. They come back and it takes a strike with the last play of the game to pull out a 3-2 victory. Our second game was a 1-0 victory over Silva Select. They came out strong and we scored on the counter about 10 minutes in. The game settled and we had the better of chances, but couldn't build on our lead, finishing 1-0. Our last game we get beat by FKK 3-0. We give up an unlucky goal early and both teams needed to chase the game as we needed a result and they need goal difference. They put two more in to finish the game 3-0 and go through to the finals via tie breakers. Overall a great event.
An excellent event with some really good competition. We started the tournament with a 2-0 victory over Miami Breakers E64 in a mature win that saw us capitalize on our opportunities and make it difficult for our opponent. That evening we played Neuesport One FC in a fantastic game. We go up 1-0, then go up 2-1, we tie it 2-2 and they score late to win it 3-2. It was an exciting, fast, high-level game and look forward to seeing them again. We then played Key Biscayne on Sunday morning in the semis and could not find the back of the net. This was a game of missed chances that we end up losing 1-0. Overall, a great event with excellent teams. Looking forward to next year.
We enter the tournament as defending champions and the expectation was to leave as two-time champions. Our first game was against tournament hosts West Pines Elite. It was a very fast game and while we were the better side, it was 0-0 at half. We go up 1-0 on a loose ball from a set piece and put a second one in off a loose ball at the top of the box securing a solid 2-0 win to start things off. Our second game against Atletico Madrid Doral started with us in control, but a couple unlucky plays and some clinical finishing and we are down 2-0. A missed marking assignment makes it 3-0 them. But in the 3 minutes before half-time we score on a beautiful ball into the box and a banger from 35 yards to make it 3-2 going into halftime. We score two more coming out of half time and go up 4-3. We suffer a bit towards the end, but hold on for a fabulous comeback victory. Our third game was canceled due to weather/field safety, but we qualified for the final as the top team and have been notified that it will be scheduled at some point in the future. We'll see.
We were asked to play in the U16 group for this tournament and it was a good challenge for us. We won our first game against Florida West ECNLR 4-0 in a complete performance. Our next two games against Hobe Sound and My Soccer Academy were 1-0 affairs where we controlled the match, had possession, and created opportunities, but could not put them in the goal. That led us to the final against Rise FC - another match where we were in control, played some beautiful soccer but struggled with the final touch. We scored a nice goal on a great play through to win the game 1-0 and bring home our 3rd trophy of the season.
Our 3 group stage games were a bit one-sided as we scored 15 goals giving up 1 against a couple local teams and a team from Orlando. In the final, we played a very good Winter Park team who had similar results in their group stage games. We scored in the first half on a great diagonal ball in behind and began to establish control of the game. A second goal from a corner and a 3rd from a nice build up and layoff put us in an excellent position. We give up a PK late and they put us under some pressure, but we see the game out and get crowned as champions with a 3-1 victory. It was an excellent weekend in our first JFC tournament.
We were asked to play up in the U16 bracket and were excited to play some good competition. Our first game against James Island - 2009 - NPL was an exciting game. We scored on a beautiful diagonal ball to go up 1-0, gave up a goal on a set piece and won it with another great ball off a turnover to win 2-1. Our next two games were against Wake FC (2009 NPL South & MLS 2) and were both more structured with most of the games played between the boxes. We go down 1-0 to NPL South on a PK and score late to tie it 1-1 in a fairly even match. Against MLS 2 we go up 1-0 and 2-1, but give up a goal late to draw 2-2. Overall, a set of just results against some good competition and I'm really pleased with our progress over the first 6 weeks.
We followed up our weekend in Atlanta with a strong showing in Montgomery, Alabama. While the competition wasn't as stiff, our work on creating better opportunities while continuing our focus on our defensive foundations resulted in 3 wins, 38 goals for and 0 goals against. A solid set of outcomes against teams we should beat.
Welcome to the 2024-2025 season. We played 3 fantastic teams and challenged ourselves right out of the gate. Our first game against GSA was a competitive match where we had double the shots, but our one that hit the net was pulled out for a handball. We ended up 0-0. Our second game against Concorde, one of the best teams in the country, just didn't go our way. It was far more competitive than the 5-0 score line as they scored 5 goals on 6 shots and once again, we had one pulled out for offside this time. We finished the event with a good game against Atlanta Fire, where both teams hit the woodwork, but it was their finish off a mistake in the back that sealed the game 1-0. Thank you to Concorde Fire for a great tournament and we are hoping to be back next year.
